29.06.12

I'm baaack! Back in Belgium, back to business, back to blogging. Even though I miss the 35 degrees-constant sunshine of Tuscany, it's good be home. And I have some photos to show you of my past week in Italy! I have lots of new inspiration for posts so stay tuned.

Fifty shades of Grey

I currently have a new addiction and obsession. It's called Fifty shades of Grey. It's a book trilogy about the out-of-the-ordinary relationship between a man and a woman. I won't tell any more than this, because I don't want to spoil it for the people who want to read it. I'm still on the first book, but I. Can't. Stop. Reading. No wonder it's the fastest-selling paperback since Harry Potter (!!).

All I can say is that I agree with the people who call it mommyporn. I definitely wouldn't recommend this book to the prude, very young or easily shocked people because these books have quite some sexual content. But that's the good thing about books: you can imagine and visualize as much or as little as you want to ;)

These books are quite different than any other books I've read, but the writing style and the intense relationship between these two people makes you never want to stop reading. I definitely recommend this trilogy if you're looking for some summer reading/mommyporn. For the people who don't read books: I also heard the film rights have been sold. Stay tuned for some more shades of Grey!

Keep calm

How awesome is this coaster? I study PR (Public Relations) at university, so this quote suits me perfectly. My friend Zane got it for me as a surprise, thank you!

Lumie

I think I found my new favorite iPhone application: Lumie. It's an app with which you can add all kinds of cool effects to your pictures. And who doesn't like a nice little effect? Especially when you're addicted to Instagram.
It costs 1.59 Euros which might be a tad more than Instagram (which is free), but I think about it as buying two packs of gum. And the app is much better.

Italian food

One of the main reasons why I love Italy so much: the food. I think almost everyone will agree with me on this one. The food in Italy is divine. If I were to live here, I would weigh 100 kilograms. At least.

Yesterday I had the most tasteful dinner ever: as a starter some beef carpaccio and as a main tagliatini with truffles. I wish I could make this at home!

What's your favorite Italian food?

Nail polish galore

Today I wanted to show you what my nail polish stash in London looks like. It's nice to have some choice, isn't it? Anyway, these are the colors I have in London and I'll also show you my favorite colors and tools for a manicure.

21.06.12

While I'm writing this, the rain is pouring like it never has before and the forecast tells me there will be thunder, lightning and hail. But thankfully I'm going to a much warmer and sunnier destination tomorrow: Italy!

some nice scented candles while finishing my last essays last week
After having unpacked all the things from London, I find myself repacking again. But I'm not complaining, I'm really happy to get a (well-deserved) little getaway after finishing my first year of university. I'm not so sure if I will have internet connection there, but I hope I do.

I'm still getting used to the whole blogging thing (yes.. still). I wish I could blog from my phone but I don't know if Blogger works well on the iPhone. I'll figure it out! I have a lot of plans for this summer and hope to share as much as I can with you. So watch this space!

Coral heels

Between finishing my first year of university, handing in my last essays and starting to pack to go back to Belgium for the summer (till September, I will miss London!), I wanted to show you the shoes I bought a few weeks ago but never got to show you. It was love at first sight and after having tried them on at Zara on three different occasions, I thought it was time I'd take them home with me.

Summer inspiration

My last days in London before the summer are slowly passing by and I'm already dreaming of lying on a beach with a good book in my hands and the sun burning on my back. Sigh. First, I got to get my last straws of uni work out of the way but in the meanwhile, I'll dream away with these summer-y pictures..

So handsome

Like I told you a few months ago, I fell in love with the bathing suits from We Are Handsome. Unfortunately, I found that they are hard to find and way above my budget (however, I saw some in the Selfridges sale today... still expensive for a bathing suit). So you'll understand how happy I was when I found very similar bodies in Primark the other day.

13.06.12

Today is all work no play. Writing essays till my fingers fall off. Except for tonight of course, when I'll be supporting the Netherlands in their football game against Germany (might as well support the neighbor countries). I'm not a huge football fan, but I think it's exciting to watch from time to time. Time to bring out the orange nail polish, I say. I found this great inspirational picture on Weheartit.

Ray Ban Cats

I'm happy to announce that there's a new item on my never-ending wish list: Ray Ban sunglasses. But not just any Ray Ban's. The model is called Cats 5000, and just how suitable is that? (I mean come on, even the title of my blog is cat-themed)  These glasses and I were meant to be, I just know it. Enough with the crazy talk now, take a good look at these pretty sunnies!

My go-to sunglasses at the moment are the classic Ray Ban aviators, but I feel like it's time my aviators got a friend. I tried on loads of sunglasses at Selfridges yesterday, and decided I liked these the most. I hope that these RB4125 - 601/32 | Cats 5000 can be mine this summer!

Caffe Vergnano 1882

If you're in London and happen to be around Holborn/ Farringdon, make sure to pop by Caffe Vergnano for a coffee.  I read that (owner) Luciano Franchi supplies the Italian embassy in London of coffee, so the coffee at Caffe Vergnano must be good, right? I immediately went ahead and tried out one of their Mocha's (I'm not a 'full-on coffee' kinda girl) on a cold and gloomy Monday..

10.06.12

I always feel a little bit 'incomplete' whenever I don't post for a day. But sometimes, there's just no time to sit behind my laptop and I must admit it feels good from time to time. I made a short (2 day) stop in Luxembourg before going back to London and I'm actually considering making a little list of things to do for when you're in Luxembourg. Especially the shopping here is good; my favorite little shop/concept store here is called Muse by... I just love concept stores and Luxembourg is filled with 'em!

Found this picture on Tumblr and love it!
Now I'll go enjoy my last hours in Luxembourg. See you in London!

Peonies

How beautiful are these irises and peonies? I just love spring/summer bouquets as they give every room that extra little something. My tip: buy/pick flowers that aren't completely opened yet, so they last much longer.

Show 2012

picture from last year
It's time for another round of creativity overdose at the yearly fashion show of the Fashion Department Royal Academy of Fine Arts school. Many great designers have graduated from this school so it's nice to see what other talent Belgium has in store. I haven't missed this show in years, and I consider myself lucky again this year because I happen to be in Belgium. My favorite designer students last year were Eva Dunis, Sarah Archut, Charlotte Pringels and En-Ya Vandenhende (best one so far, but she has graduated) so I'm curious for their collections this time.
If you'd like to go see it too, check out the website for more info. The show runs till Saturday!

Roka, Charlotte Street

One of my favorite restaurants in London must be Roka. After having had dinner there three times I think it's safe to highly recommend you this restaurant. From the award winning restaurant Zuma, Roka serves contemporary Japanese Robatayaki food, which is absolutely delicious. Here's my experience with Roka Charlotte Street.

Moccasins

I am completely in love with these baby pink leather moccasins with studs. I love wearing my Minnetonka moccasins as I think they're the perfect summer shoes, together with sandals. So I must have a look at these studded pink ones when I go into Zara next time. Cute!

The Diamond Jubilee

As promised, here are some pictures I took during the Diamond Jubilee in London. My friend Zane was really enthusiastic about the whole happening, and that made me excited as well. We walked around London on Saturday and waited for hours along the Thames on Sunday for the Pageant in the hopes of seeing HM the Queen.

The weather was quite bad, so the pictures turned out to be quite gloomy. Nonetheless, I was glad to be part of it and very happy to see the Queen and the rest of the Royal family in real life.

MAC bronzing powder 'Sun dipped'

I posted about MAC's new Hey Sailor! collection a little while ago. I thought - and still think - this collection looks amazing because of the marine style packaging. So of course, I couldn't resist when I found myself in a MAC store all of the sudden and - oops - ten minutes later stood outside with a little bag in my hands. The content was this MAC Pro Longwear Bronzing Power in the color Sun Dipped.

Denim + white

I think the combination of a dark denim shirt and white trousers looks really really nice. Victoria Tornegren posted this outfit on her blog and I love it! I generally like her outfits because her style is simple yet fashionable. Less is more. I want this outfit!

I saw a nice demin shirt on Zara's webshop, but it's not the perfect dark blue denim. Any ideas where I can find one?

Diamond Jubilee

I've desperately been trying to import pictures to my iPhoto but something seems to be going wrong every time, and a blog-post isn't complete without pictures of course (here's when my perfectionist side comes out). I took loads of pictures yesterday and today of the Jubilee festivities. Unfortunately, the weather is being less festive, which was to be expected in rainy England. But still a little disappointing after those glorious sunny days last week.

Either way, rain or no rain, I saw the Queen, Kate Middleton, Prince William and Prince Charles and other members of the Royal Family and I'm starting to feel more and more like a real Londoner.

I will tell you all about the 1,000 boat pageant whenever I can upload the pictures I took. I hope everyone is having a happy Jubilee holiday!
