Zara sale purchases

This sale season at Zara wasn't as good as usual, but I still found a few items I'm really happy with. Some things are for summer so is it bad that I'm already looking forward to it and dreaming about the sun on my skin, freckled cheeks and frozen yoghurt? Too early right?

Healthy meal inspiration

I often hear from people that they don't feel inspired to cook every day, let alone cook healthy. I try to cook for myself three times a day, and I know it's hard to come up with new/interesting dishes. So today I'll show you some of the things I've been making recently and hopefully you'll get inspired. Okay not all pictures look super appealing and Tumblr-worthy, but in the end it's all about the taste isn't it?

Three essentials

Here's three things I have been wearing/using every day and loving for a really long time: Catrice nail polish in She wears red,  Clinique High Impact mascara and Diptique Philosykos travel size perfume. The perfect deep red almost black nail polish (I've used it on my toes all fall and winter so far), my favourite mascara ever and my favourite perfume ever. Three essentials for me!

Outfit: black & leopard

I snapped a few details of yesterday's outfit; a combination of some things I got during the sale. I got the scarf and skirt on Friday (both from Zara and absolute bargains) and combined them with a black cashmere jumper, my favourite handbag and some boots. I wasn't too sure about the skirt when I bought it but now I'm in love with it!

Have a lovely Sunday!

Just wanted to wish you a happy Sunday. Go for a long walk in the park, have a delicious brunch, sleep in, bake something (how about these cookies, they are incredible!), read some blogs, watch your favourite show (I'm loving the Carrie Diaries at the moment), relax!

Gosh I miss this cat, isn't she adorable?

January in pictures

January is almost over so I thought it would be fun to share some pictures from my phone and instagram. There's a new trend going around in the blogosphere: plogging (photo-blogging), which is basically taking pictures of your whole day. Well I won't go that far, but here's a few pictures of the past month. If you like to follow me on instagram my name is athenadb.

Almond breakfast smoothie

I've recently been buying almond milk instead of cow's milk. I found out I prefer it when make overnight oats because it's a little bit sweet (I'll share the recipe soon), which means I don't need to add extra sugar. This morning I made an almond breakfast smoothie. It's super simple to make and very tasty!

Blend: 1 banana, 2 scoops of Meridian almond butter, cinnamon and almond milk (as much as you like; I like my smoothie a bit thick). Pour in a nice glass and add some coconut flakes and flaxseed on top. I had this for breakfast together with some toasted sourdough bread with almond butter (can you tell I love almond butter?).

I try to change up my breakfast a lot so I don't get bored of it. Do you like these kind of posts?

A nail polish dream

As you may remember, I wrote about the Ciaté Mini Mani month here. A few times, I was very close to buying it, but I figured I had enough nail polish... until I saw that it was half price on the online shop; £21 for 24 mini nail polishes, less than 1 pound/polish. Which nail polish lover could say no to that?
This is the perfect way to try out new colours (I've worn the light blue ferris wheel and love it!) and it's also my first time trying out Ciaté nail polish. I also can't wait to try out the famous caviar nails. I'll make sure to share my favourite colours once I've worn more of them but in the meantime, you can still get your hands on it on Asos (not as good as the deal I got though). Hurry up, it won't be there for much longer!

Small bag, big logo

Lately I've been seeing tiny handbags with huge logos, and I'm trying to figure out whether I like it or not. Rumi from fashiontoast posted an outfit today with the Louis Vuitton Vivienne bag and I must say I quite like it, as long as the rest of the outfit is toned down. The YSL Cassandre bag is another small bag with a big logo which is becoming quite popular. What do you think, is it too much show-off or is it a cool statement?

Baby spinach & pomegranate salad

I have seen several spinach salad recipes over the past few weeks, on blogs and in cookbooks. Feeling inspired, I made my own version of the spinach salad and it ended up being colourful, fresh, full flavour with a hint of spring. Doesn't that sound good? Of course I'm sharing the recipe with you today.

Polpo - Beak Street

Last Wednesday I went on a lunch date with Isabel for a much-needed catch-up and some good food ('cause that's what foodies do). We both had Polpo in mind, so were pleased when we got a table right away when we arrived - it can get pretty busy.

H&M Go Gold collection

A few days ago I saw some pictures of the H&M Go Gold collection on several blogs. It was instant love but I couldn't find anything about it on the H&M website; the only thing I knew is that it would launch January 16th. Today, while walking past the huge H&M on Oxford Circus, I spotted a little sign saying "Go Gold collection, 4th floor"... and the rest is history ;) I'm so happy with my leggings (£24.99) and top (£14.99), I think they are awesome! Keep an eye on your H&M, because they might also stock this collection before the actual launch date.

Instagram inspiration

Thanks to this blog I just found this girl called Maya Zaboshta on instagram; she's from Russia and I really love her style! She wears the cutest shirts and skirts and pairs them with killer accessories like high suede boots, sunglasses and Chanel bags. Her outfits are the perfect mix of cool, relaxed, cute and femine. Her instagram name is zaboshta. Let me know if you know any other cool instagram accounts I can follow (my name on instagram is athenadb).

Lazy Sunday breakfast

Good morning! It's another beautiful day in London (we've had a sunny weekend, lucky!) and I just finished my breakfast. I've been changing it up quite a lot this week, from porridge to toast to smoothies. This morning I had a green tea together with a filling breakfast smoothie made from one banana, some frozen raspberries, blueberry yoghurt, almond milk and homemade granola on top, delicious!

French pharmacy products (Citypharma)

If you've read my Paris posts, you'll know that I went to Citypharma twice. It's a huge pharmacy in St. Germain where you can get some better deals than at other pharmacies in Paris. Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that some French pharmacy products have become a real hype, like Bioderma. I'll show you my selection of what I got at Citypharma (however you can get these products at almost every pharmacy in France).
1. Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse: A lovely all-purpose oil with a floral (I'd say yasmin) scent. read my post here
€10.50 for 50 ml

2. Bioderma Créaline H2O Solution Micellaire: my favourite make-up remover. It's scent-less, very gentle and removes all make-up.
€15 for two 500 ml bottles (€7.50 for one), €2.50 for a travel-size bottle

3. Klorane dry shampoo: I haven't tried this because I got this for a friend who told me this is the best dry shampoo, so I might have to borrow it from her some time;)
€7.90 for 150 ml

4. Biafine: this cream is mostly used to help the skin heal after sunburns or other burns, however it's also popular among make-up artists to soothe models' skin during fashion week. It also helps really dry skin as an overnight treatment.
€3.90 for a big tube

5. Marvis toothpaste: Nice, very old fashioned toothpaste in metal tubes. I got 5 flavours for my family to try: cinnamon, licorice, very strong mint, yasmin and ginger.
€2.70 per tube

6. Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm: Forgot to add this to the picture, read my review here.
€6.90 for 15 grams

Another recommendation is my all-time favourite face moisturiser by Avene (Skin Recovery Cream for sensitive skin). If you live in the UK you can buy some of these products on Escentual however some products (like Nuxe) are more than twice the price so it's worth stocking up when you go to France!

Zara wing clutch

Despite being a little disappointed with the usually-awesome Zara sale, I found an item which you'll have seen on my favourites post a few weeks ago. It's a beautiful, small leather clutch with gold details and a little wing. It kind of reminds me of the gorgeous Zanotti shoes somehow. What do you think?

Dreamy...

As much as I love London, I wouldn't mind spending some time in this super luxurious chalet, in the middle of the snow. I spotted it and just had to share with my fellow luxury/ski/chalet lovers? There's nothing better than the smells of a chalet in the Alps; that fresh wooden smell, you know what I mean?

Musashi Sushi, Kyoto

I never told you about this sushi place we went to while we stayed in Kyoto last November. After a long day of biking around Kyoto visiting temples and gardens, we biked past Musashi and I managed to convince my non-sushi-loving family to go there later that night.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel lip balm

During winter I always get dry and chapped lips, no matter how much lip balm I use. The lip balms I usually use (Maybelline Baby Lips) are just not hydrating enough for this time of the year. I had heard some good things about the Nuxe Rêve de Miel (honey dream) lip balm, and even though I don't like little 'pots' of lip balm - less hygienic - the ingredients sounded so good I had to try it.

Toast aux champignons

I have a thing for mushrooms. Shiitakes, morels, chanterelles, cremini, boletus... you name it, I love it. So it's not a suprise that toast aux champignons (mushroom toast, for the non-French speaking) is one of my favourite things to eat. It's a very simple and earthy tasting dish; perfect to start the new year with. I snapped some pictures while helping my mom preparing toast aux champignons with salad for a light but slightly decadent lunch on January 1st.
