Brunch is BIG in New York. It's the perfect meal because 1) it's acceptable to order both waffles and fries, and 2) if you do it right, you have breakfast and lunch in one go and won't need another meal until the evening. Since I didn't take many pictures at these three places but I still wanted to share them, I decided to make one big post with three New York brunch spots. Ruby's serves a nice Australian brunch, at Maman you get a French déjeuner and at The Smith you'll find real American-style options.

As you might know, I'm a big fan of boxing. I started about 2.5 years ago and I haven't stopped ever since. I'm generally not good at many sports and I'm not a big fan of group classes, but with boxing, I feel like I've finally found something I'm both good at and get to do in a group. It's challenging, fun and one of the best workouts I know! New York has a lot to offer when it comes to boxing so I decided to try a few boxing gyms through Classpass. First up is Overthrow!

One of the best things about New York is the constant flow of new restaurant openings. It's a city where you'd never have to eat the same thing twice (if you wished to do so). De Maria is one of New York's latest additions to the all-day-café-scene, and I think I'm already in love. Everything is aesthetically pleasing, down to the very last detail, which is exactly the kind of place I like.

Because I'm feeling a little homesick, I thought I'd squeeze in an Antwerp post between all my talk about New York. Juno is a restaurant in Antwerp which opened last summer, so it's still kind of new! They're best known for their beautiful plant-based lunch dishes so I took a friend here for my last lunch in Antwerp back in December.

Buvette is one of those brunch classics in New York that everyone seems to go to at least once during their stay in the city. Which is funny, because it's French, not American. It's located in Greenwich Village, in a charming little street. Last Sunday, I went with two friends and we had one of the most decadent brunches I've had in a while!
After a long morning at the Met, my friend Fernando and I were absolutely starving. When I suggested we'd go to The Dumpling Man (which he had told me about) I got an immediate "YES!" so we hopped on the subway to the East Village, in search for dumplings. It's exactly what we needed on that freezing cold and rainy day.

I love being one of the first people to try a new place. Everything is fresh, the owners/staff go above and beyond to please their first customers and you get to try it before the rest of the world finds out about it too (endless queueing). So when I saw that a little Australian café called Banter would open on Thursday, I was determined to try it, snow day or not. And it so happens to be super close to where we live, so my roommate and I walked right over for brunch.

Today's post is a mini review of a brunch spot in the East Village. Boulton & Watt looks like nothing special from the outside, and inside it feels more like a run down pub than a place where you'd have brunch. But when my friend told me they had the best french toast in town, I had to go try it.

By CHLOE has taken over my Instagram feed ever since it opened in 2015. It’s one of the first places that has managed to make vegan fast food attractive, both in look and taste. So it has been wildly Instagrammed by every girl in New York. Tasty vegan food is hard to find in Belgium, but New York is the complete opposite. It seems like at least half of everyone is meet is vegetarian, which of feels like a breath of fresh air. The most surprising thing is that not only vegans go to By CHLOE, but everyone does, even the biggest meat lovers. It's that good.

Linda Tol is probably my favourite Dutchie I follow on Instagram. Even though she works in fashion, she always stays herself and is super sweet. And she goes to the coolest places. When she was in New York last year I saw that she went to Café Henrie for brunch (and said it was one of her favourites), and it looked so great I immediately wrote it down. Now, months later, I could finally go and try it myself!

As you know, I love coffee. That's why I've been trying different coffee places over the last two weeks here in New York. I've asked everyone I know in the city where I should go for the best coffee, and they gave me some addresses. Some of them are franchises and some are independent cafés. They're all very different but they have one thing in common: damn good coffee.

On my first morning in New York, I walked over to The Butcher's Daughter for breakfast. I had been wanting to go here for ages, and since it's only a 10-minute walk from where I'm staying now, there was no reason why I shouldn't go (except the rain, but that still didn't stop me). This little place serves up one of New York's best vegan brekkies, so I'd been told.

Anyone living in Antwerp will know this place, and has probably been numerous times (if this isn’t the case, shame on you). For anyone living outside of Antwerp, this is probably one of the best tips I can give you for when you’re visiting my hometown. Finjan has received numerous prizes and is probably in the top three cheap eats in Antwerp. It’s nothing fancy, just a simple restaurant with delicious fresh food. Finjan is famous for its pittas, of all kinds. I know people who’d make a detour to get their hands on a Finjan pitta!

I just spent 11 days in the midst of summer in Fortaleza, the North East of Brazil. Since none of us was familiar with this city and had no references whatsoever, it was up to us to explore Fortaleza and find the hidden gems. One night, we discovered a little gold-mine in terms of restaurants, in the area around Rua Prof. Dias Da Rocha. Cort is also located on this street, and the moment we passed by it with the taxi, we knew we had to come back. And so we did. Three times! You could say we were practically regulars by the end our trip.

I rarely go to Brussels, so when I had to visit the U.S. embassy a couple of weeks ago, I asked my cousin where I should go for brunch. She told me I could get some tasty coffee and vegan snacks at a little place called MOK, so I was sold. It was a bit out of the way, but thankfully it was 100% worth it.

St. Jorispoort and Mechelseplein in Antwerp is one of my favourite little spots in the city. Don't ask me why, but everything here feels so authentically Antwerp (if that's a thing). There are some really old fashioned shops as well as cosy candlelit restaurants and bars. One of the newest additions to the bunch is Caffè Barbossa and it fits in just perfectly. It's a relaxed bar owned by two brothers who serve up gin & tonics and dreamy snacks platters. Ever since it opened back in September it has been my favourite spot for drinks!

After telling you a bit about Sydney's beaches, museums etc., it's time to get to the (even) more interesting part: the food! Just like Melbourne, Sydney is an absolute treasure chest when it comes to good restaurants. You'll need to try really hard to have a bad meal here. I got to eat some of the best ice cream and brunches of my whole trip in Australia. Let's get into my Sydney food guide...

As you might have noticed, I recently added the "Around the world" section on the right-hand side of my blog. Since I often write about my trips abroad, I decided to categorise everything per location so whenever you plan on travelling to any of these places you can find everything much more easily! I've mostly written about restaurants, but for some cities, I've also included some things to do, museums, where to sleep, shopping etc. I plan on adding lots more places to the "Around the world" section so stay tuned for more guides and feel free to browse around in the meantime. I've compiled a list of some of my favourite posts of the last few years below!

I love good cup of joe. I was never a big coffee drinker until I had to write my dissertation while I still lived in London, and all that kept me going were flat whites (Monocle was my go-to spot). With an abundance of great coffee places in London, I was truly spoilt for choice. In Antwerp, this isn't really the case and you really have to know where the good places are. A few months ago I heard of a new coffee place opening nearby so I went to try it right away and got hooked from the first sip. I'm talking about Butcher's Coffee.

In the university area in Antwerp there are lots of little lunch places to feed all the hungry students (including me). Tartine is one of them, and it's also one of my current favourites. Like the name suggests, they do sandwiches only (tartine is an open-faced sandwich in French). A simple formula but with enough options so you never need to have the same thing twice. A perfect little breakfast, brunch and lunch place!
