Hi Sushi Izakaya, Covent Garden

Yesterday my friends and I decided to have lunch after uni. We headed to Covent Garden with sushi in our minds. Katarina had been to Hi Sushi before and she liked it, so the decision was easily made. I decided it was time for another short review and pulled out my little camera (sorry if the quality is a bit bad).

Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush

First thing I need to say is that the name is this blush is a mouthful, but the Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush is too adorable not to show! It's part of the new Boudoir Beauty spring collection, which is really romantic. This three-toned blush is a real collector's item and will make every beauty-lover's heart beat a little faster. Just in time for Valentine's?

You can find swatches and a full review on Temptalia , this website contains a review of nearly every product imaginable, it's amazing.

I have been loving for a while now. It's a website where two people upload professional fitness videos and give health tips. I'm usually not a fan of work-out videos, but these are just so good and simple. Whether you want to do a quick 10 minute work out at home, or do a one-hour intense workout, this website is perfect.

There's an easy system where you can decide what kind of exercise you'd like to do and which part of your body you want to focus on. Then you get an endless choice of work out videos, so you'll never get bored of doing the same work out. It shows the equipment you'll need (mostly you just need your body) and the difficulty.

There's even a 1000 calorie home work out, seems like a bit of challenge but I must try it sometime.

The best part? It's free! No need to buy a pricey work out video because hundreds of free videos are available for you on Fitnessblender. It almost sounds like I get paid to write this, but I just think it's great that such a professional website with hundreds of videos is just run by two people with regular jobs, who film videos at home in a spare room. It's incredible!

I want to support this great initiative so that's why I wrote this blog post. Let me know when you've tried a work out!

Nike Free

For a while now I've been lusting for a pair of Nike running shoes. I always thought running shoes were hideous, until Nike finally designed some shoes that were functional and looked good at the same time: the Nike Free run shoes. I love them!

I like walking around London but recently my feet have been hurting because of the long walks I make in shoes that aren't made for endless walks. A good pair of light running shoes would be great for long walks but also runs. I saw a girl wearing the bright pink shoes with an all-black outfit and it just looked really nice. I really love the pairs below!

Miss Vogue

I read some exciting news for all Vogue lovers and young fashionista's: Vogue is launching a new magazine called Miss Vogue, aimed at a younger audience. The American Teen Vogue never reached the UK, but Vogue UK is finally launching a magazine aimed at "young women who love experimenting with fashion a beauty". This means more budget-friendly clothing and beauty items and more creativity (maybe DIY's?).

It reminds me a bit of Elle Girl, which was a really great magazine for young girls which was discontinued some years ago. I'm curious to see if Miss Vogue will match my expectations! It comes out May 6th, as an addition to Vogue UK. I'll let you know what I think!

Pink platforms

My friend Sarah and I were casually browsing through Zara when she suddenly picked up these sandals, looked at the price tag and said: "they're 9.99!!" The next few moments were a blur of over-excitement, giggling and repeating "9.99, I can't believe it!" and over and over again. It would be silly NOT to have bought them, right?
Coral, pink and baby pink Zara sandal platforms
As most of my heels are from Zara, I know that the quality is great and that the platforms are really comfortable (even though these 15 cm heels look rather daunting). Coming from 60 pounds (2 seasons ago), 10 pounds was an absolute steal! I love the bright candy colours and can't wait to wear them this summer, paired with some white or blue jeans/shorts and a top, or with a little white dress.

What do you think?

My favorite smoothie recipe

So I've been experimenting a bit with different smoothie combinations and I've found a winner. The fruits I usually have in my fridge which are among the cheapest fruits around this season are oranges, bananas and frozen berries. I usually add spinach to make it a more of a green smoothie. Curious what else is in it? Keep on reading!

whiskers & lion's 1st birthday!

Exactly a year ago, I posted my very first post on this blog and I'm very proud I've come this far! Despite having ignored my blog when I was having a little too much fun or too little time, I still really love blogging about the things that interest me and make me happy. I hope it makes my readers happy too!
Maybe I should treat myself with a Hummingbird cupcake?

I just wanted to thank you all for reading my blog, whether this is the first or hundredth post you've read on whiskers & lions. In one year, I've published 280 posts in total and I hope to at least double this number by next year.

If you like my blog, I'd love it if you followed me on Bloglovin or left a comment with your blog link, so I can see who my readers are!

I will try to post on a more regular basis this year, and not forget about my blog so often ;) . I hope to write many more things about fashion, beauty, cats, flowers, London, food and travelling and I hope I can take you with me on the journey I call my second year of blogging

edit: Instead of a cupcake I bought a Real Techniques brush to as a treat. I couldn't wait to use it and my first impression is that I love it! Review will follow soon.

Are you a crazy cat person?

I think I can safely say that my sister, my brother and I are all crazy cat people. I do love my little dog the most, but it's just a different kind of love that I have for our three cats (mostly our lilac British shorthair).

I found this fun page on Tumblr for cat lovers. Some things are too crazy but I can totally relate to the following statements...

Miranda Kerr's style

Apart from being a Victoria's Secret angel, this Australian model has an amazing style. Very simple, classy and elegant. Key items: a black blazer, printed blouse, designer handbag, fitted skinny jeans and big sunglasses. I love it!

Forever21 jewelry, spring '13

I'm a big fan of Forever21 jewelry because you don't always want to spend lots of money on an item that you'll only wear for one season. I'm really loving the new collection, mostly basic gold and silver colours and a slick look. These are my favorites:
Pyramid necklace, spike bangle, heart earrings, golden ring, large studded armcuff
Stackable rings, spike necklace, rhinestone and pearl necklace, golden necklace, pink flower ring
Chain bracelet, geo necklace, pyramid rings, heart bangles, bow ring
Rhinestone necklace, studded bangle, spike necklace, large studded armcuff, silver ring
Seems like Forever21 is upping their game! All of the above is currently sold in Forever21 stores and online.

The Silence Room at Selfridges

In 1909, Harry Gordon Selfridge introduced The Silence Room: a room where shoppers could escape from the energetic and busy shopping experience at Selfridges. When my brother - aspiring architect - told me to visit the new Silence Room at Selfridges, I had to go see what the fuss was about (and take some sneaky photos).

10 things I would repurchase (make-up)

I saw this tag on Youtube and thought it would be interesting to share it with you too. The question: which 10 make-up items would you repurchase right away if you were to lose your whole make-up stash? *the horror*

Spring '13 trend: black and white

A quick glance at and I knew enough: apart from ruffles and two-piece suits, black and white are IT this spring. All-black or all-white outfits, or creating a nice contrast when combined, these two simple and clean colours are right up my street. Have a look at the little recap I made of the Spring 2013 ready to wear shows..

Columbia Road flower market

There's an endless list of things to do on a Sunday in London. One of them is going to the flower market on Columbia Road in East London. If you know me well, you'll know that flowers are some of my favorite things in the world, so consequently, this market is now one of my favorite new spots in London!

Short hair + styles

So on the day before Christmas, I decided to make a drastic hair change. For me, that means cutting of more than just the dead ends, which has been my standard request at the hairdresser's for as long as I can remember. Long story short - literally - I got a haircut. I had no 'inspiration' when I decided to cut my hair, but now that my hair is shorter, I've found some hair styles that I really love.

V&A Hollywood Costume & South Kensington

Yesterday my friend Irene and I spent the afternoon in South Kensington. With the Hollywood costume exhibition in our minds, we headed to the lovely Chelsea area.

Victoria's Secret Pink goodies

Today I went to check out the sales at Victoria's Secret. Most sale items were 50% off or more so I could not help coming home with a little pink polka dot bag. There were some crazy discounts!

M.A.C. Viva Glam Gaga, Revlon and Maybelline pink (dupes)

I don't often wear bright lip colours, but I love bubblegum pinks. When I bought the MAC Viva Glam Gaga I lipstick a few years ago, I knew I had found the perfect pink. Too bad the Viva Glam collections are only temporary, so this lipstick is not for sale anymore. But no worries, I found two dupes!

Health shopping

The thing I don't like about coming back to London after 3 weeks is that there's zero food in my (micro) kitchen. The last days before I left, I lived off the very last left overs which meant that I had almost nothing to eat when I came back last week. After some 'normal' grocery shopping, I wanted to do some healthy shopping, so went to Holland & Barrett for the first time and got a few bits and bobs..

Baby I'm back!

I landed in London yesterday and I couldn't be happier to be back! Minus the awful grey and dark weather. After unpacking, I went for a quick look at the sales and the new Zara on Oxford Street. First of all, the new Zara is really nice, it looks very fancy. Second, the sales are very good; Zara still holds nearly all of the sale items. Lastly, remember my obsession with this red lace top? Well guess what.. I found it! A very good start to my 2nd semester ;)

Start 2013 healthy!

We've just had the fattiest, tastiest and most food-filled weeks of the year. Christmas dinners, parties, stuffed turkeys, rich desserts, champagne and New Year's eve has done nothing good for our health and winter-body. It's a new year, time to start over!
The most delicious Dutch tradition for NYE, fried 'dumplings'. (Tumblr)

Have you seen my new Tumblr yet? I collect my favorite photos here and I've been adding lots of pictures recently, so have a look. And share your Tumblr page if you like, I love seeing other pretty Tumblr's!

My favorite tv shows

I've never been a big fan of tv shows. That's because I simply don't have the patience and interest to wait a week for a new episode to come out. But over the past few years, I've managed to accumulate a small list of favorites. Like most girls, I like watching really girly tv shows, so those take up the biggest part of the list. If you haven't seen any of these shows, I'd recommend watching them. They're my favorites for a reason!

Desperate Housewives
Not extremely girly like some of the other shows on this list. I love the original story lines of the main characters, the ups and many downs, and the unpredictable, super exciting season finales. The mysterious side of it makes it such a good show to watch. I watched all 8 seasons within 2 months last year and I was totally obsessed. This might be my number one favorite show!
Genre: comedy-drama-mystery
Seasons: 8 (ended)

Zara sale winter '12

Depending on where you live, the Zara sale might not have started yet. But in Holland it started last week and yesterday I went for a quick look at the nearest shop. Because it's still the beginning of the sale, I didn't make any great bargains, but I got some things that I've wanted for a long time.

First up is a simple blue shirt. I got it because the color is beautiful and the fabric is really flow-y and soft. Paired with blue or white jeans it will look great.

Next up is a simple white silk shirt. The Zara sale is the best time to get your hands on some items made of beautiful fabrics. Silk shirts are timeless and the best investment. Looks nice, feels nice and it can be worn during the day as well as in the evening.

Third is a pair of green pants with a green paisley print. Very Etro. I love them!

Last is a pair of black jeans with a leopard print. It's not the same as on the picture, it has less leopard print. I wear black jeans all the time so I'll be wearing these a lot.

Have you gotten anything at the Zara sale yet?
