8 beauty products

... I'm loving at the moment. The following skin care, nail-, hair- and make-up products have been among my favourites of the last few weeks; some old, some new. First up is this beautiful nail polish by OPI called Charged Up Cherry. I chose this colour when I got a pedicure this summer and liked it so much I ordered it on Amazon. I love these kind of colours on my toenails.

Recipe: soft apples with caramelized nuts

It's the beginning of autumn which means blushing apples are falling from the trees and squirrels are starting to collect nuts. The other day I collected some apples, pears, fresh walnuts and hazelnuts from the garden and made a super simple autumn dessert. It doesn't win a beauty prize, but hey, it's not all about the looks right?

GH sleepwear

On sleepless nights like these, I always end up browsing through online shops. This time I ended up at the Gilly Hicks online shop, where I found the prettiest sleepwear I've seen in a while. Maybe I'd sleep better if my pyjamas were this cute?

Most loved VI

Time for another post with my favourite things! Here's my most loved...

Day trip: Rotterdam
A few weeks ago my boyfriend and I decided to spontaneously go to Rotterdam for a day. We first had a yummy seafood lunch at Hotel New York and then walked around the city centre for a bit. A lovely day except for the rain which was pouring down all day!

Prospect: going back to London
In a few days I'll finally be re-united with my friends and my favourite city in the world. It's my last year as a student in London so I must make the most of it!

Hair care: Louise Galvin Sacred Locks
I don't think I'll be switching back to drugstore hair care any time soon. I'm in love with the Sacred Locks range by Louise Galvin. Totally worth the investment, I promise! (Review here.)

Surprise: a little black Chanel bag
With inside this beautiful card holder. So unexpected which made it all the better!

Flower combination: blue with green
I love this bouquet I made. Beautiful blues, whites and some green. I also added fresh mint leaves which adds a fresh scent to the bouquet. I'm trying to enjoy the flowers as much as I can before the season is over.

Breakfast addition: Meridian almond butter
I bought this little pot of almond butter at Whole Foods a few weeks ago. I had made almond butter myself before but this is so much better. It contains 99.5% almonds and 0.5% salt, which makes it slightly salty. I ate it with sourdough bread, but also spooned it right out of the jar (don't tell anyone). This jar was empty within 3 days so I'm not the only one who loved it;) First thing I'll be buying when I'm back in London.

Recipe: Finnish cinnamon buns
Like I promised a few posts ago, I tried to re-create the cinnamon buns from the Nordic Bakery. I think it turned out pretty well, except next time I need to take them out of the over sooner. When I've fine-tuned the recipe I'll post it here!

Smoothie time

While I make a smoothie almost daily when I live in London, I don't do it very often in Belgium. So I thought it was high time for a vitamin boost and made a huge smoothie! Sundays are perfect for smoothie making. I threw in every fruit I could find and it was delicious!
The ingredients (for 1 liter)
- 1 lemon
- 2 limes
- 3 oranges
- 1 peach
- 1 handful of frozen strawberries
- 1 handful of frozen raspberries
- 1 banana
- 1 small mango (I used frozen mango puree)

Juice the citrus fruits and cut the other fruit into small pieces. Blend. Done :)

The prettiest gift

I recently got a very special gift. It's a Chanel Camellia cardholder in a classy dark green colour. It's my first Chanel thing ever so for now it's still sitting safe in its little black box on my nightstand. It's a beauty isn't it?

Thank you

John Frieda Full Repair

A few weeks ago I received a big box filled with John Frieda products from the new Full Repair line. My hair has been getting a real luxury treatment this summer, first with the 3''' More Inches range, and then with my absolute favourite, Louise Galvin Sacred Locks. Would I be impressed by this new range by John Frieda? I tested it!

New in: Supertrash heels

While I was in London, I couldn't help but going for a little shopping spree. One of the things I bought are these gorgeous light blue/grey heels from Supertrash. My favourite type of heels are sandals and these are such a special colour that I just couldn't pass up on them. I would pair them with black high-waisted jeans or my black peplum skirt; all the attention to these babies ;)
psst! you can still order these online in several different colours

Jo Malone Red Roses Body Creme

A product I've never mentioned but have been using for a while is this body creme by Jo Malone. I received it as a present last Christmas, but only started using it during spring/summer. It's luxurious, hydrating, smells incredible and it's perfect for pampering.

H&M Paris Show Collection

The H&M Paris Show Collection has been in the shops for a few days, but I still wanted to share this collection in case you haven't seen it yet. The collection has higher prices than usual, but some items are so gorgeous I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for them. The one item I really love is the skirt, it's just perfect. The double breasted coat is also really cool. I hope I spot some of these items in the shop!

What's your favourite? Shop the collection here.

Zara favourites & 400th post

This is officially the 400th post (!) on whiskers & lions, and to stay a little traditional, I've put together yet another list with my current favourites at Zara. I can't believe I've written 400 posts already, I could probably even fill up a dissertation with that. If only it were that easy...

My first perfume

I only started wearing perfume when I was about 18 years old. I was never the type of girl who couldn't leave the house without perfume. Quite the opposite, I kind of disliked perfume in general: too strong, too sweet, to artificial... Just not me. But one day I was determined to find the right perfume, so I had a look at the pretty Diptique perfumes. After sniffing each and every one of them I finally found the one for me: Philosykos. (read my review)

After a few years of using and cherishing Philosykos, my little bottle is almost empty! Finishing a perfume bottle might be the most normal thing in the world for most women, but for me it's special. Once this bottle if finished the first thing I'll do is buy a new one (even though the packaging is - and less pretty in my opinion - now). This has, after all, become my signature scent and until today I haven't found a perfume which I like more.

If like me, you find it difficult to find a perfume you like, try looking for more 'alternative' brands (not the ones you buy at the duty free shop). There's plenty of boutique shops which sell more unique scents. Maybe start with Diptique, they have some really unique scents!

Shake Shack London

If you know me a little bit, you know I love a good burger. So when I heard the oh-so-popular American Shake Shack was coming to London, I couldn't wait to try it out. The first chance I got was last week, so as soon as it was lunch time I headed for my mission.

Beach Babylon

One of my favourite books this summer (and last summer) has been Beach Babylon. I didn't manage to find any other Babylon books in my local library, so I decided to read Beach Babylon again since I enjoyed it so much last summer.  The book is about the course of events in a normal week in one of the most luxurious hotels in the world, narrated from the manager's point of view. It's filled with anecdotes about celebrities and the richest people in the world, and how the manager bends over backwards to make everyone's high demands come true. A really great read for when you're on holiday. Love this book!

This summer's beach day essentials: Beach Babylon, Ray Ban aviators and some Hawaiian Tropic.

Sleek black leather

You can say what you want about the 'new' YSL, but I love these two pairs of shoes from Saint Laurent Paris. Classic and sleek, they are the perfect shoe basics. The sturdy leather riding boot for during the day, and the elegant strappy heels for at night which you might have seen two posts ago. I spotted even more timeless classics in the Saint Laurent shoe section; Hedi Slimane, keep 'em coming!

Feel like splurging? Find the heels here and the boots here.

The Nordic Bakery cinnamon bun

For a split second I wanted to include this in my previous London post, but I just had to dedicate a full blog post to this little piece of heaven. Slightly crisp and sticky on the outside, soft and spicy on the inside, this Finnish cinnamon bun is the best I've tasted so far. It's one of the Nordic Bakery's best sellers, and I completely understand why. I munched on one of these big buns throughout the day, savoring it, and craving it again the next morning. It might not be very pretty, but it's so tasty...

Luckily for me, there are 3 Nordic Bakery locations spread across central London and they have a cookbook with the recipe for the famous cinnamon buns. Someone posted it online and I'll be trying out this recipe soon!

If this cinnamon bun tastes this amazing when it's hot and sunny outside, I can't even begin to think how good it will be with a big cup of tea and a soft cozy blanket, while watching London getting covered in white snow. Sounds romantic, doesn't it? I'll be eating these buns all year round!

The Nordic Bakery description of the buns: "We bake them on their sides so that the buttery, sweet cinnamon filling stays enclosed in the bun. Then, when they are still warm, we brush with a glaze, giving them a gleaming deep bronze coat. Firm and sticky on top, yet soft and inviting on the inside, our cinnamon buns make the day better."

The last summer days in London

I just came back from a few days in London and it was so lovely to be there again. I could fall in love again and again with this city... I was there to look for a new flat, and in between viewings I mostly walked around (the weather was perfect!) and stopped for something to eat. I took some pictures along the way so here's a kind of 'diary' of my short stay in London.
