July & August in pictures

I didn't make a photo update of July since I'd forgotten a little about it because of my move from London to Amsterdam and the shift from student- to working life. But now here I am, living in Amsterdam for over a month now and working full time in PR. I wish I could spend more time discovering the city but still I hope 3 months (2 months left now) is enough to get a taste of Amsterdam. Enough rambling, here's some pictures of my daily life the past few weeks.

SLA

On top of my Amsterdam-to-do list was "eat a salad at SLA". So I fixed a date with one of my housemates and met up with her after work yesterday. SLA has three locations in the city, and we chose to go to the one on the Westerstraat. SLA is basically a really good salad bar, where you can also create your own salads too. The style reminds me a bit of The Good Life eatery in London, sounds good right?

Five favourites

Birthday snapshots

Exactly one week ago, I celebrated my 21st birthday with my dear family and friends. While the weather was a bit of a disaster, it was still a beautiful day. Being a big foodie, it was important that the food would be excellent and it certainly was. So I wanted to share a few snapshots of my birthday, mostly of the food and decorations. I made around 30 small bouquets on Saturday using deep purple and burgundy colours, matching the black table and the fall weather we were having that weekend. The dessert was a mix of fresh berries, small tarts, chocolate mousse, ice cream and sorbet. Perfect day!

4 health & workout myths

There are quite of a lot of myths and contradicting stories in the world of health and fitness, especially when it comes to us girls. By doing a lot of reading, I've found out that there are some common misconceptions that women have, of which I will explain 4 to you today.

I wasn’t actually planning on buying anything from the MAC’s Kelly & Sharon Osbourne collection, but of course when I saw some of the products on blogs, I was a bit curious. Since Amsterdam has a nice Pro-store, I decided to pass by and have a look at the products.

Burgerlijk Amsterdams

Last week I went on my second date with Annemerel, from Annemerel.com. If you don’t already read her blog (go!) you might remember her from when she came to London with her sister to run the We Own The Night race. I hadn’t seen her since, and because she works in Amsterdam a few days a week, we had to meet each other again! The previous week we had some Thai food, which wasn’t nearly as good as Thai Metro in London, so I don’t feel like writing about it. But last week was REALLY good, so of course I’m sharing this with you;) Originally, the plan was to go for a run together with the Nike crew, but it was raining so much that burgers were the obvious plan B. Our hotspot of choice was Burgerlijk Amsterdams.

Birthday wish

My 21st birthday is coming up this Sunday and like every year, I'm sharing with you my wish list. Of course it's not realistic but in the meantime I can dream of adding all these items to my wardrobe. Right now I'm looking mostly at timeless pieces which I will enjoy in years to come (okay those bright Nikes are an exception!)

Sunday in Amsterdam

I've just spent the weekend in Belgium and I'm on my way to Amsterdam now. There's internet on the train so I thought I'd share a little diary of last Sunday I spent in Amsterdam (edit: the photos took so much time to upload.. so it's Tuesday now haha). It was my first official weekend in Amsterdam so I got the chance to discover the city a little bit. I finally found to share with two flatmates, and they also have a little boat so of course I asked if we could make a boat trip that Sunday. The weather was lovely, the city was still asleep (the Gay Pride parade took place the day before) so it was the perfect day for it.

Muji make-up bag

Make-up bags. You just can't have too many (yet I definitely have too many). Yet still I was never completely satisfied with the way my make-up travelled around with me. I kept it in a soft and pretty Libery-print bag, but everything would just wildly shake around while traveling. For toiletries that's fine, but for delicate eyeshadows and glass foundation bottles it's less than ideal. I needed something which would keep my eyeshadows whole and with enough little pockets to securely store my blushes and powders. So when I unexpectedly found this make-up bag in the sale at Muji, I knew it would be perfect.

Jungle fever

Before leaving London I tried on this playsuit at Topshop and really liked it, but unfortunately there were none left in my size. Of course I want it even more now that it's even less available to me haha! This palm print has been the print this summer, I've seen it everywhere. There's also some really nice espadrilles on sale at the moment, tempting.. Though I never really shopped a lot at Topshop, I kind of miss it now and of course I miss London so much. But I'm finally settling in a bit in Amsterdam, and can't wait to share more with you about this city!

George W.P.A.

So before coming to Amsterdam, I had heard a few things here and there about the George restaurants, and I had only tried out George Deli. They call it "The proverbial French-brasserie-in-New-York... In Amsterdam." Every George is a little different (there are 4 of them.. soon 5!) so I couldn't wait to try out more. On a rainy Monday, I went to try out George W.P.A. because it was Belgium's National day so fries were in order and George so happens to have some of the best fries in the city.

Pink flower lemonade

Because today was the Gay Parade on the canals in Amsterdam (I will show you some pics soon), I thought it was quite suitable to share the recipe I came up with last weekend. I love pink lemonade and it's quite easy to make, so I added a floral touch to it to make it even more "me". This makes a great refreshing summer drink or a nice cocktail if you add some gin, rum or vodka to it.
